Influenza Vaccination 2009

Seasonal flu vaccine is available for all patients at this time. A limited supply of H1N1 vaccine has arrived and is available for high risk patients. The Boulder County Health Department is distributing the vaccine and has restricted vaccination to the highest risk subset of the high risk group to be vaccinated first. This is slightly more restrictive then outlined below. Call the office, 303-776-6872 to schedule season flu vaccinations and to check current availability of H1N1 vaccine. Both injectable vaccines may be received at the same time.

Priority Groups for the Regular Influenza Vaccination:

  • all children aged 6-23 months
  • adults aged 50 years and older
  • persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions
  • all women who will be pregnant during the influenza season
  • residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
  • children aged 6 month-18 years on chronic aspirin therapy
  • health-care workers involved in direct patient care
  • out-of-home caregivers and household contact of children aged less than 6 months

Priority Groups for the H1N1 Influenza Vaccination:

  • all women who will be pregnant during the influenza season
  • people who live with or provide care for infants younger than age 6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, day care providers)
  • health-care workers involved in direct patient care
  • all children aged 6 months through 24 years of age
  • persons aged 25-64 years with underlying medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza related complications.
  • Complete recommendations are listed at H1N1 Flu Recommendations

If you do not receive the Flu vaccine this year but come down with symptoms of the flu (sudden onset of high fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough, muscle aches), see your physician within the first 48 hours and antiviral medication such as amantidine or Tamiflu may be used to shorten the course and severity of the illness.
