Autobiography:
I am a Physician Assistant who joined Dr. Hinman’s practice in December of 2004. I moved from the east coast where I had been working in Internal Medicine in Salisbury, Maryland. I decided to relocate to Colorado to live in the same town as my fiance and I am very happy living here. In May of 2005, we were married in my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. My name is now different (I changed it from Leila Hanagud to Leila Rankin) but I am still the same friendly Physician Assistant I have always been. If I have not already met you, I look forward to meeting and working with you to take care of your health care needs.
Here is some background information about me so that you can get to know me a little. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where I attended Georgia State University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have always liked the sciences but realized that I particularly enjoy working with and helping people. So, when a physician friend of mine told me about the Physician Assistant field, I felt like it was a perfect match for my career aspirations. I worked for a few years after college as a Research Specialist on a joint CDC/Emory research project accruing excellent patient care experience while working closely with a Physician Assistant who was a stellar mentor to me. After that experience, I was sure I wanted to be a PA!
I attended George Washington University’s Physician Assistant Program which is consistently ranked as one of the top five PA programs in the nation. I thoroughly enjoyed my graduate school experience in Washington, DC; I felt like my training more than adequately prepared me for a career as a PA in primary care. My graduate program had the added resource of George Washington University’s Medical School. I attended many classes with the medical students and acquired my patient care experience on rotations at some of the finest hospitals in the metropolitan DC area.
I graduated from PA school in August of 2000 with a Masters of Science in Health Sciences. Shortly thereafter I moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where I practiced at the same Internal Medicine office for almost four years. I love working in primary care; I enjoy women’s health, preventive medicine and patient education. I also have an interest in dermatology, diabetes, mental health issues and treating many of the acute illnesses that present to primary care offices. I like to involve my patients in their own health care decisions and work as a team, alongside my supervising physician, to provide excellent, thorough care.
